Supporting your family in a beautiful birth

Every pregnancy, labor and birth is different.
But one thing is constant: every birthing person needs support. ~ Gail Tully Founder, Spinning Babies

You will never forget the moment you met your child.

Ask any woman who has given birth about her experience and she will have a story. Almost immediately you will know if her experience was favorable or not. That is because, we never forget this day. It is so important to bring a team around you that supports you and your vision, that knows birth, and has experience in all kinds of births, that works together with you and your spouse, listens to you, and is for you.

What is a Doula?

dou·la, dü-lə

: a person trained to provide advice, information, emotional support, and physical comfort to a mother before, during, and just after childbirth.

The word “Doula” is a Greek word that literally means “female slave for the child-bearing woman.” Today the word has come to mean “One who mothers the mother.”

Research shows that childbirth does go more smoothly with a doula: labor is 25 percent shorter, the need for epidural pain relief is 60 percent less, and the Caesarean section rate is reduced by 50 percent.

—Susan Gilbert

These statistics have been my experience as well. While it can be true that more women who want to have a natural birth hire a doula, I have also had clients who knew they wanted an epidural, but didn't want a c-section. Or I've had clients that unfortunately knew they were going to have to have C-section, but still wanted skin to skin bonding and breastfeeding immediately afterwards. As your doula, I am about supporting you in your vision of a beautiful birth. I am about helping you have a birth experience that you look back on with peace and gratitude. I listen to what you hope for and what you hope doesn't happen at your birth, and the preparation we do as a team is to make your dream birth possible!

"After having a difficult birth with my first born, I had a lot of fears going into this second birth. I knew that this time I wanted to have a doula with me to see if I could have a better experience, and having Katie with me made all the difference.

From the moment she came in, she provided the support and comfort my husband and I needed in a stressful situation. I am so grateful that I can look back at this birth and feel nothing but joy, and I know that is because Katie was with us. I cannot more highly recommend her."
